Technical specifications of our intranet/internet
contents
1. Required configuration on
work stations
Our intranet/internet courses were
developed to be installed on work stations
without plug-ins.
Browser: Internet Explorer 4.0 and
over; Netscape 4.7 and over; Java plug-in
1.4.0
All our courses were developed with
Java and are compatible with the Java
1.4.0 (and more) plug-in. Windows XP
do not automatically integrate that
plug-in. If it is not installed, the
training program will detect it and
display a link enabling its installation.
2. Used files
Two types of files are used by our
applet to optimize the lessons’
loading time in intranet and internet
format.
- Image file: gif type
- Sound file: Very light MP3 type
For your information, a complete module
with sounds and images globally represents
less than 10 Mb.
Information on the bandwidth for your
intranet/internet content
On the first consultation of an Edu-Performance
course, a Java applet is loaded with
the home page. It includes the course
structure, the browsing logic and the
AICC and SCORM communications functions.
With a volume of about 400KB, it is
saved in cache memory on the web server
and the client system, the following
access time are reduced in drastic fashion.
Here are a few examples of academic
charge calculations
Internet solution, 100 Mbits/s network,
1 i-Tutor 2000 server (Application/Data)
1 - Connection for 20 users in a 2 minutes
period (connection weight):
Connection page: 44KB including 7KB
for the HTML code
Main screen: 35 KB (learner mode, 10
courses) to 80KB (trainer mode, 100
courses), therefore an average of 40KB,
including 20 KB for the HTML code
- First connection for every user (no
elements in cache memory)
Peak flow: 84 (KB) x 8 (bit/o) x 20
(individuals) /120 (s) = 112 KB/s
- Subsequent connections (elements in
cache)
Peak flow: 27 (KB) x 8 (bit/o) x 20
(individuals) /120 (s) = 36 KB/s
2 – Access to EPC courses for
20 learners in a 2 minutes range (connection
weight):
Course: 1.1MB including 9KB for HTML
code (480 KB applets, around 600 KB
for images and sounds).
- First access for every user (no elements
in cache memory)
Peak flow: 1100 (KB) x 8 (bit/o) x 20
(individuals) /120 (s) = 1466 KB/s
- Subsequent access (elements in cache)
Peak flow: 9 (KB) x 8 (bit/o) x 20 (individuals)
/120 (s) = 12 KB/s
